NYC government punishing bar smoking more harshly than school smoking
New York City schools are dropping suspensions for students caught skipping class, cursing, or even smoking on school grounds.
Thanks to government, a student caught smoking in class faces a lighter penalty than one caught smoking in a bar. Last year the city passed a law imposing a $50 fine on anyone caught smoking outdoors in a public place. Smoking in bars is also punished by fines, including a $400 fine against the owner of an establishment where smoking occurs.
Unless that establishment is a government school apparently.
