Survivor’ star to announce Libertarian bid for Ind. governor Sat.
“Survivor” star Rupert Boneham will announce Saturday he will run for Indiana governor as a Libertarian, the charity activist tells RTV6′s Todd Connor.
“I’ve been talking to a lot of my friends, my family, my donors for Rupert’s Kids, making sure that my world would not really change, that my programs will still be maintained,” he said. “(I’ve been) talking to a lot of the people on our website, RupertForGovernor.com, seeing those stories, people out there that are struggling, that are having a hard time, and I don’t see the candidates that we have to choose from really understanding what is going on with day-to-day Hoosiers.”
“Boneham touted his experience as a small business owner and his years of work on behalf of troubled teenagers with his charity, Rupert’s Kids, as his primary qualifications,” he tells RTV6.
“He said Indiana needs to address how it treats businesses, what it will take to improve the educational system and restructure its correctional system to prevent repeat offenders,” RTV6 reports.
“Being able to work on the economic side and create a more fair and level playing field for businesses, not just giving those deals to the big business, but to everyone running business,” Boneham said. “I’ve talked to many small-business owners that are struggling. Those people, even as small a businesses as working out of your home, but we make it almost impossible to do, with creating different hurdles that the government has made us file and pay and do.”
“Boneham, who supports school of choice, said the state’s educational system needs restructuring to allow those who don’t want to or can’t afford to go to college to still make a living, a move that would also help improve the workforce, he said,” RTV6 reports.
